Creative Directors for the AILA 2021 Festival of Landscape Architecture
Spectacle & Collapse: changing landscapes
Robyn and I have had the profound experience of bidding in 2019 with a team, and being accepted as Creative Directors for the 2020 AILA Festival of Landscape Architecture. The team researched and philosophised deeply on the theme that we proposed, attempting to answer our own questions regarding the future. Due to the Covid -19 Pandemic it was postponed to this year, in the mean time Robyn created another family member and elected to leave the team to be with her gorgeous family.
An excerpt from my introduction speech:
“Over the next couple of days, we will seek out novel ways forward through the unknown. Prompting conversation about current social, economic, environmental and cultural issues, and looking forward into real ways in which people can act. We hope to see the beginning or consolidation of networks for collaborations to make change. We have diligently worked over the last two years for this specially curated event of speakers to be attractive and interesting to all.
The theme of this festival, “Spectacle & Collapse: changing landscapes” is more than a blanket professional concept; it is about personal growth and wellbeing as individuals that will make us better designers.
The Creative Directors have been getting excited and working hard to fine-tune this festival, driven by our optimism about the ability of those who act in and around the profession of landscape architecture to collaborate and make an impact.”
