Bulwer Avenue Garden wins two awards

It is a pleasure to receive two awards for Bulwer Avenue Garden, not only for the recognition of a beautiful and functional design, but also for the design’s contribution towards the future of the family, neighbourhood and our future. This is achieved through sophisticated designing for biodiversity and urban forest or, as banksia & lime like to call it; a Family Woodland.

The Jury citation:

AILA WA Award of Excellence (highest garden award)

A deeply considered garden, where the factor of time is passionately embraced. Time is expressed through daily patterns, seasonal change, social interactions and family growth. This project elevates the understanding and value of a garden to the wellbeing and enjoyment of home. It celebrates a space for living that is embedded in a WA landscape ethos. Meanwhile, the project builds opportunity for food production, a love of biodiversity and an immersivebotanical expression experienced from within the house, the garden and from the street. Banksia & lime has crafted a project that has a reach beyond an expression of client taste or nostalgia, giving back to not only the family, but also the street and urban ecosystem, with potential to give residents and neighbours ongoing amenity and delight over future years.

ShadeSmart Award

banksia & lime’s modern take on the inner-city, workers’ cottage garden brings WA’s flora to the street - and creates a shady, flowering refuge for family life to flourish. This is a biodiverse landscape showcasing many WA plant species, but importantly, it provides significant shade for both the homeowner and for an existing treeless street through considered front yard planting. The importance of shade on private property has never before been so critical to the liveability of our urban environments and this project exemplifies how this can be achieved in an attractive and and considered way.

Client’s feedback:

banksia and lime's creativity and attention to detail has truly transformed our sandy lot into a breathtaking space. From the initial concept to final implementation, banksia and lime's understanding of our aesthetic and attention to integration of the garden landscape with our new build, gave us great comfort.  Christina took on all our practical and aesthetic ideas and made the space much more than anything we could have wanted. We feel like we live in a holiday home, sitting in an Australian bush-scape in the middle of the city. All our visitors shower the garden in compliments.  We trusted banksia and lime's creative choice throughout and are thrilled with the result. We look forward to enjoying and maintaining our beautifully landscaped surroundings for years to come.
